Hello friends! So glad you stopped by today! If you are like me, you take a lot of pictures! Summer vacation pics, family together time pics, special occasion pics, just goofing around pics- anything goes when you are capturing memories. I love to display pictures around my home and office, and finding fun ways to jazz up the display is great! Today I am going to show you how to decorate a picture frame.
This is a frame I created a while ago for my daughter:

Here are the supplies you need:
-
- Frame mat- any size
- Craft paper or cardstock
- Paper glue
- Embellishments
- Cricut Explore Air™
I am using a really large mat today. It is 11 x 14, which will house an 8 x 10 picture. It is a summery picture, so I am using soft pastels to decorate the frame.
Step One to Decorate a Picture Frame
Step one is to glue your papers to the mat. You can choose to use the same papers for all four edges, or use different papers to mix it up a bit! I am going to use two different papers and I am going to leave one side white. The teal color has a chevron pleat design throughout- not sure if you can see that in the pictures!
Step Two to Decorate a Picture Frame
Step two is to score, or cut, the excess cardstock. I use a Fiskars scoring tool and it is super awesome- makes smooth cuts so easily. No ripping or tearing of the paper, and it happens in minutes. Perfect!
Step Three to Decorate a Picture Frame
Step three is to let your creativity SHINE! This is where you can add stickers, lettering, embellishments, shiny and sparklies- anything you choose! Anything that is SPECIAL to you. Make it beautiful.
I used my Cricut Explore Air™ to create the word Beautiful to go across the top of the frame.
I love adding shapes to give the frame unique dimension. Again, I used my Cricut Explore Air™ to cut squares, using the same papers I used to cover the mat. If you do not have a Cricut Explore Air™, you can cut the shapes by hand. I lined my squares in a diamond formation:
Adding a couple of circles to the frame, and some bling, made for dramatic flair:
I placed some floral embellishments along the side. You can see one of the stickers in the pic above.
Worried the frame is too floral and pastel, I got out some crafting stamps and black ink. I wanted to project a saying that speaks to summer fun. Here is the stamp work on the bottom of the frame:
And finally, here is the finished product:
Summary of the Steps to Decorate a Picture Frame:
- Glue your papers to the mat
- Score/cut the excess papers
- Let your creativity shine!
