Welcome to a new season, friends! Are you excited for fall? As a girl in my mid forties, I have to admit I have a TON of holiday decor- all of it, fall, Halloween, Christmas, Easter, summer! We made a cross country move 12 years into our marriage and it forced me to get rid of so much stuff. However, in the 15 years that have followed, I have more than made up for it! Today I want to share three inexpensive ways to upgrade your fall decor to make things look fresh and stylish!
September 1 has me swooning every year! It is the start of one of my favorite seasons- fall! I love everything about fall- the colors, the food, the smells, and the DECOR! I have done a home tour a few times on this blog and I love getting inspiration from other bloggers. Click here to see last year’s fall home tour. This September, though, I felt a bit in a decor slump. I have so much fall decor, but it felt like the SAME OLD STUFF. Do you ever feel that way? I wanted to find a way to make my decor feel fresh and new- without spending a ton of money on new stuff!
Three Inexpensive Ways to Upgrade Your Fall Decor
Sometimes seasonal decor feels redundant- I completely get it! And while we do not enjoy the repeats, it is not always feasible to throw out the old and purchase new. So how can we repurpose what we have for cheap to make things look and feel new without breaking the bank? Check out these ideas!
Step One: Change throw blankets and pillow covers
I have a few pillows I use to decorate my home and I buy pillow covers to change up my style! For fall, I love a soft, cozy feel. One of my favorite combos is bright white and orange! So during the fall season, you will see lots of white throw blankets and pillow covers surrounded by orange pumpkins.
A second plus to pillow covers is they are easy to clean! I love throwing them in my washing machine to clean up hair, dust, and the everyday objects they attract. White throw blankets and pillow covers make a room feel cozy and clean. LOVE it!
Step Two- Use paint to change the look of pumpkins
In the same way paint can transform a room, paint can transform decorative pieces! Painting decor can give it a whole new look and feel. And if you are like me and change the look of the rooms in your home throughout the year, paint can make the same old decorative piece feel custom made or custom purchased for the space.
I purchased the pumpkin arrangement below from Wal-Mart 10+ years ago. It started to feel too orange for my neutral loving heart. So I painted the base pumpkin bright white- and I love it! The white is a perfect contrast against the brown and orange tones of fall.

Step Three- Repurpose leaves and flowers
I was once a lover of Tuscan-style home decor. Big floral arrangements in muted colors were a MUST with this style! Over the years, I became less a fan of the brown and more a fan of white. So my solution was to cut the big table arrangements apart and mix and match neutral stems with the darker stems! It works beautifully and saves me from having to purchase new florals for arrangements.
So there you have it- three inexpensive ways to upgrade your fall decor! The use of throw blankets and pillow covers can give your fall home a cozy feel. Painting decorative pieces can add a whole new look to old decor- try it today! And repurposing florals can give your decor a new look while not taking you to the cleaners financially.
