Hello dear friends! Well, I have not done a seasonal home tour in three years, so I guess 2020 would be the perfect year to do one! Lol! Welcome to our neutral fall home tour 2020!
I LOVE decorating for fall! Have I told you this before?! My last fall home tour was three years ago but make no mistake- this home is decorated for the seasons every year! I reuse decor, so sometimes doing a home tour each year feels like a repeat of the last. Since my last home tour, I have done a bunch of DIY projects around my home- so I can show that to you too!
Neutral Fall Home Tour- Where to Begin
Does that faux brick catch your eye? It is the EASIEST DIY project I have ever done- and probably the least expensive too! Click here to see how I did it!
As you enter our home, you come right into the formal living and dining room. Before 2020, I would tell you this is a wasted space. However, during quarantine, this table served as my and my sister’s work space! I am pretty sure those chairs were not sat in as much in 20 years as they were in the seven weeks of lockdown!
And yes… this table is 20 years old! It is one of three pieces of furniture in our entire home that was with us when we moved from Michigan in 2006. Originally, it was orange wood. I painted it white, then celery green, and now it is a soft blue distressed with walnut express minwax oil.
We live in what many would call a cookie cutter subdivision in central Florida. I absolutely LOVE our home and love our neighborhood. The perfect home for our family but it did lack character and style- so I changed it! Not overnight, that is for sure. It took time to work up the courage to start some of the projects I dreamed of doing. In this space, I created a faux brick wall, hung board and batten, and hung shiplap. Love, love, love these projects!
Adding Soft Fall Touches with Neutral Style
Some seasons I go all out with color! This year, I kept things more soft. On this shelf, I added a colorful leaf and white pumpkin. This neutral fall home tour has lots of rich color next to white!
I love that my home reflects my personal style. But it was a long time getting here! Let me see if I can find a before picture of this space:
Yup. Let me give you a moment to let this image sink in. We are just going to pretend that red abstract picture is not hanging on the way… nothing to see here… LOL!
And here comes some truth telling- this room looked like this for almost 4 years before I worked up the courage to change it! Dark and dreary is a good way to describe it and the table served as a catch all for all the things. I did not know where to begin to make a change- and what to use to make the change. Kind of silly, I know, considering I had been on Pinterest for YEARS pinning images of decorating styles I loved! That, my friends, is where I started.
While Black Friday shopping in 2018, I purchased a nailing gun and circular saw. They were mine and my home decor dreams took flight! Well, not immediately- it would be another 6 weeks before I worked up the determination to take said tools out of their boxes! LOL!
Since then a ton of board and batten, faux brick, and shiplap has been hung, sanded, primed, and painted around this place- and I am not mad about it!
I am so glad we have connected! Be sure to subscribe to Home on Arbor Pointe for updates on simple DIY projects! Click here!
Falling for Fall- Neutrals and Color
As you can see, throughout this room, I added touches of fall by placing leaves, pumpkins, and blankets around the room! I am a lover of neutral decor and in fall I like to add pops of color here and there.
Alright, alright- to answer your questions, yes, I put a Christmas tree up and decorated it for fall! And I have zero regrets! It is white Christmas tree I purchased last year. I threw lots of ribbon, leaves, and pumpkins on it and LOVED it! Here is the tree in all its glory:
Throughout our home, I love the mixture of whites, warm wood tones, and metals.
Our family room is my favorite room in our home! This year, I hung board and batten all around the room and had it painted Repose Gray. Just to be clear, I do all of the DIY in our home, but with 19 foot ceilings in this room, we had to hire professionals to reach the tall areas!
Bright Orange Against Soft White
Two years ago, I bought this faux fireplace from Facebook marketplace. It was orange when we got it so I painted it white, of course! Fun fact about the furniture in our home: Many pieces have been touched by a paint brush. Sometimes more than once.
We spend the majority of our time, when home, in this space. It is important to me that it is comfortable and clutter free- and pretty! I need to be able relax and not worry about “messing things up” when our kids are home and we just want to watch a movie together and hang out.
We had this room painted in September, so I was just pulling together all of my neutral feels when I decorated for fall. This sign was perfect- mostly white with pops of orange in the pumpkins! Love it!
Here is a different shot of this space! You can see the board and batten I finished this fall. I hung some black and white pictures of my kids and our family throughout this room. Surprisingly the kids did not fuss too much! LOL!
Fall Decor that Makes You Happy
Have you tried hanging board and batten? It is super easy and adds awesome texture to the room. Click here to see a step by step tutorial for doing this!
White pumpkins, orange pumpkins, yellow leaves, red leaves, orange leaves… mixing colors with woods and whites is just my favorite this year! What is your favorite style for fall decor? The best thing about style is you cannot go wrong- if you like it, it works! Remember that your home style should reflect you and the awesome people you share it with! Anything that makes you happy is important to showcase.
Happy fall y’all!
